Craftsmanship and Commercial Activities

The artisanal and commercial activity in the wider region of Tzoumerka is associated with the production of wool which emerged from the late 16th century and later with the production and distribution of silver craft products especially from the mid-18th to mid-19th centuries. The trading of dairy products was also significant. Craft making is at the heart of the Vlach Communities (e.g. Syrrako, Kallarytes, Matsouki) whose inhabitants respond to an increasing demand from the wider market as well as a commodity economy and a favorable tax system.
