P3: The Holy Monastery of Kipina on route from Prossilio to Kalarrytes

On the way back from Syrrako we encounter on route from Prosilio toward Kallarytes, and near the settlement of Mystras, The Holy Monastery of Kipina. The Monastery is dedicated to the Dormition of the Theotokos, Protector and Consoler to all. In the Monastery there was a secret cave where the hospital of the democratic army operated until 1948. Opposite are the Monastery of Panagia of Vyliza and a river formed by the converging streams of the Kalarrytikos and Matsoukioti rivers. Having admired the view, we then return to Prossilio and head to the vlachochori (βλαχοχώρι) of Kalarrytes, which along with Syrrako, has been declared as a preserved traditional settlement. The Church of Saint Nicholas which stands there is the Patron Saint of emigrants as already mentioned. The built residential area along with its nobility and its imposing nature constitute the reminiscence of an 18th and 19th century culture that was associated with long-distance trade, silversmithing, education and charity. The folklore collection and silver crafted collective items of the Golfinopoulou Home located in the settlement’s square depicts images of this cultural past. The square and its maple tree is the best spot for someone to go back in time and place and allows one a clearer view of the magnificent mansions and the traditional architecture of the settlement.
