The Monastery is characterised as a historic monument that stands in solitude at an altitude of 750 meters. Its location is particularly evocative and once combined with the solemn atmosphere of an old Monastery, which is dedicated to the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, it creates strong emotions in the visitor. According to folk tradition, the Monastery’s name is associated with a golden icon of Mary that was once found in the cave that exists in the area but unfortunately it hasn’t been preserved. The main Church has a three-apse sanctuary and a dome. The Monastery was restored in 1665 and the beautifully carved sanctuary dates back to the early 19th century.
