W11: Watermill and Water Basin in Agnanta

We leave behind us Melissourgoi and Pramanta and head towards the settlement of Agnanta, via the Ktistades settlement. Here, we can make a short stop to discover the beautiful square that hosts the Church of Saint Nicholas, the Holy Church of Saint Paraskevi, the central water fountain as well as the fountains of Vilia and Romanou. July 26th is an important date in the calendar because the memory of Saint Paraskevi is honored with a traditional festival. You can also visit the folklore museum before heading to Agnanta.

Agnanta is a cluster of settlements. Starting from Saint Paraskevi whose feast day is celebrated with a festival that takes place from July 25th to the 27th. Meanwhile in Agnanta we encounter many Churches. Some of these had owned their own watermills and water basins. Also note that there is yet another operating water basin that local residents and those of surrounding neighborhoods once used to wash their bedding and blankets. The Agnantinis stream divides the settlement into two neighborhoods known as the upper and lower neighborhoods. The Historical and Folklore Museum of Tzoumerka was an important initiative that allowed the settlement to thrive on. Here we are exposed to ambiguous folklore items that local people used for their daily living, work activities as well as other objects that impacted their lives.

We then head to the enchanting settlement of Katarakti.
