Folklore Museum on Tzoumerka’s History and Traditions

In the settlement of Agnanta and over the Bridge of Plaka is located the Folklore Museum of Tzoumerka. The Historic and Folklore Society of Tzoumerka’s primary objective was the establishment and operation of a Folklore Museum in Tzoumerka.

The Museum’s constitution states that the following items were collected and preserved for the museum’s exhibition:

– Folklore material which is reminiscent of earlier eras and revives nostalgic aspects and perspectives of history, life, daily living and the professions of Tzoumerka.
– Items at risk of being scanned or disappearing from the onslaught of modern technical civilization with its tendency for abundance and material goods.
-Things that remind older people and raise awareness amongst the younger generations of the bygone eras that will unfortunately fade and disappear for good.

Mrs Voula Georgonikou, a member of the Museum’s Association, contributed to the folkloric collection that is hosted and exhibited in the museum. The Association members’ next goal is to enrich the museum with objects that are representative of all the settlements of Tzoumerka so that the visitor can see and appreciate the particular characteristics of each settlement. Therefore, upon departure the visitor will have gained a comprehensive and complete picture of the local tradition and heritage of the wider Tzoumerka region.
